The five Great Lakes
provide us with some of the finest drinking water in the world. They are the largest surface freshwater system on earth, shared by more than 40 million people who have the privilege of saying “This is my water.”
Yet each year, Great Lakes water is mixed with over 24 billion gallons of combined sewage. For more than 14 days in the 2009 beach season, 80 U.S. Great Lakes beaches were unfit for swimming. 185 invasive species now threaten our ecosystem - and a new invader, such as the Asian Carp, enters every 8 months.
Join the Alliance for the Great Lakes in our efforts to preserve and protect Lakes Superior, Michigan, Huron, Erie and Ontario.
